In early 2018, Bad Weather Productions were brought on board by Huski Productions to be involved in the VS Gaming 2018 Festival. The tournament revolved around 1024 players competing on XBOX One and Playstation 4 for a total prize pool of R1.5 million over two days. A mega dome was constructed at the outdoor events arena in Montecasino, Johannesburg to host the event. Bad Weather were tasked with handling the stage design, graphic elements and technical production. This included a diverse lighting structure and full 360 degree circular LED screen above the main competition arena; an entertainment stage with Kinesis integration and general lighting throughout the dome. Lastly, we hung a kinetic ball structure above one of the general playing areas which helped introduce attendees to the grandeur nature of the event.
As an additional offering, Bad Weather designed and created a augmented reality mini soccer game, where attendees could compete in teams of 3 on a mini soccer field which was digitally projected. Player movement was tracked using beacons attached to the soccer bibs which allowed for rings with player names to follow them as they moved around the field.
To help attendees navigate the festival as well as provide general information, Bad Weather developed an interactive floor map, schedule, and registered player list which was displayed on a two large touch screens at the entrance to the event.
